Afternoon Tea
A refined mid-afternoon social tradition featuring premium loose-leaf tea served with a three-tier selection of crustless finger sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream and jam, and an assortment of delicate pastries and cakes.
Originating in mid-19th century England—popularized by Anna Maria Russell, the 7th Duchess of Bedford—Afternoon Tea was born out of a desire to curb “that sinking feeling” during the long stretch between meals. Today, it is celebrated as an indulgent experience of British hospitality and culinary precision.

1. Booking & Payment Guarantee: Most venues require a valid credit or debit card to secure a booking. Pre-payment: For groups of 6 or more, or at high-end venues like The Ritz or Claridge’s, full pre-payment or a substantial deposit (e.g., 50%) is often required at the time of booking. Confirmation: A reservation is only considered "confirmed" once you receive a formal email confirmation. 2. Cancellation & Amendments Standard Window: Cancellations or reductions in party size usually require at least 48 hours' notice. Large Groups: For parties of 6+, the notice period often extends to 7 days. Late Fees: If you cancel outside of these windows or fail to show up ("No-Show"), venues typically charge a flat fee (ranging from £25 to the full price of the tea) per person to the card on file. 3. Dietary Requirements Advance Notice: You must notify the venue of any allergies or dietary needs (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Nut Allergies) at least 48 hours in advance. Limitations: While most venues accommodate common allergies, they cannot always guarantee a 100% allergen-free environment due to the nature of a shared pastry kitchen. 4. Arrival & Seating Time Duration: Most Afternoon Tea sittings are strictly timed, typically lasting 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. Grace Period: Venues usually hold a table for 15 minutes. If your party is late, the end time of your booking remains the same, or the table may be released to the waiting list. 5. Dress Code Luxury Venues: Often require "Smart Casual" (no trainers, sportswear, or flip-flops). Top-tier hotels may require gentlemen to wear a jacket and tie. +1 Casual Venues: Generally have no formal dress code, though "smart casual" is the standard expectation for the ritual. 6. Service Charge A discretionary service charge—usually 12.5% to 15%—is almost always added to the final bill, especially for groups.
